The Roadmap to Heart Attack Eradication

The Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication SHAPE offers the following roadmap made up of three identifiable stages designed to deal with the epidemic of heart attack. This roadmap begins with the improvement of preventative cardiology and ends with the complete eradication of heart attack.

I. The era of mass screening:

Today, regular screening and intervention for accurate risk assessment can be done using readily available technology. SHAPE calls for bolstering the traditional protocols used in preventative cardiology with noninvasive imaging data.

This combination of risk factor screening and accurate assessment a patient's level of vulnerable plaque, the root cause of heart attack, can be utilized to save lives and prevent undetected heart disease from translating to unpredicted heart attack.

II. The era of mass preemptive therapy:

Population projections show sharp increases in the rates of cardiovascular disease leading to heart attack on a global scale. This trend is especially threatening to developing nations.

A combination of prophylactic drug therapies utilizing satins, blood thinners and other medicinal ingredients has shown tremendous promise in protecting and treating the projected "sick populations."

The "PolyPill" concept has tremendous promise in terms of treating and preventing the rise of cardiovascular disease and death on a population basis.

III. The era of vaccination:

Heart attack can be eradicated if its root cause is prevented. Atherosclerosis or the accumulation of fats, bad cholesterol and lipids inside the heart and arterial walls leads to vulnerable plaque, the root cause of heart attack over time.

The immune system attacks plaque buildup as "foreign" elements and can cause them to become rupture prone or vulnerable. Preventing and controlling the mechanisms that lead to the buildup of arterial plaque and its transition to rupture prone plaque will lead to ending the threat of heart attack.
