The Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE) The Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication has derived from the Association for Eradication of Heart Attack (AEHA). The Association for Eradication of Heart Attack (AEHA) originated in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas and was founded by Dr. Morteza Naghavi in 2001. AEHA was an extension of his research on vulnerable plaque. Dr. Naghavi led the shift “from vulnerable plaque to vulnerable patient” for identification of asymptomatic patients who are at a very high risk of a new future heart attack. In collaboration with Dr. PK Shah, Dr. Erling Falk, and several other world renowned leaders in cardiology, Dr. Naghavi established the Screening for Heart Attack Prevention and Education Task Force which resulted in the SHAPE Guideline. The SHAPE Guideline aims to fill the gap in existing cardiovascular risk assessment that fails to identify and save the vulnerable patient. In August 2007, the Board of Directors of the Association for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (AEHA), a Texas non-profit private operating foundation decided to establish SHAPE (Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication) as a non-profit public charity to focus on public education and fundraising. AEHA remains in place and will focus on supporting innovative research with the potential for eradication of heart attack. AEHA has gifted its entire catalogue of scholarly research and publications to SHAPE for its public educational programs. All searches for works conducted by AEHA are now redirected to the SHAPE web site where the documents and presentations are housed. We are committed to building awareness and support for the prevention and ultimately the eradication of heart attack.
